About
Us
Our service is aimed at working with Mental Health Service Users (MHSU) and
people with disabilities, a client group that often do not get adequate
recognition and support in standard teaching establishment.
We have been working with MHSU for over 7 years and understand the needs to
encourage and help students to their learning goals.
We work with students in there own environment – hospital or supported
housing, as a bridge between mental health services and their further inclusion
into their community. This method has proven a very effective part in patient
recovery. By teaching clients in their own surroundings, our service takes away
those barriers to allow them to concentrate on developing new skills.
By being a community led group we are helping the service user to make
outside links which they may not be able to achieve otherwise, especially if
they are hospital based.
Our aim is to compliment the organizations we work with, not only by making
links with community led groups, but by being able to spend an hour or two with
a client that may not be achieved with a nurse or OT through their own workload.
Our status as non-medical staff restricts the barrier of clinical structure
which have encouraged patients to speak more freely about things they feel
reluctant to tell hospital staff. With co-operation from the patient we feedback
through supervision sessions with staff members or key workers.
Partnerships
We welcome the chance to work with
other organizations that support and work in the mental health field. If you
feel we can work together please contact us
